The Two Sudans - Online Film Project

On 9th July, 2011 the largest African nation was split into two: Sudan and South Sudan. Preceding that date, a group of young filmmakers from Sudan and Germany felt the need to witness the impact of this unique, historical moment with their cameras.

Driven by the interest to understand how these events are affecting the lives of the people in North and South, the Sudanese directors started to follow their protagonists – sometimes friends or family members – asking questions about their lives, hopes and dreams. What will change in your future life? What does home mean to you? How can you reach your personal goals? How do you define your identity?

With the support of the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung, and others, an ongoing web-documentary was created, embarking on a visually and emotionally capturing journey into Sudan and South Sudan. From a place with virtually no film infrastructure, young film makers are telling the stories of those whose voices are never heard.
