Christine.Gatwiri@ke.boell.orgGatwiri Christine is the Project Coordinator for the Route to Food Initiative (RTFI) within the Agroecology and Food Rights programme at the Heinrich Böll Foundation. In this role, she oversees the planning, implementation and monitoring of RTFI activities. She supports research, communication and advocacy efforts that advance the constitutional right to food and promote agroecology as a pathway to food systems transformation.
With nearly a decade of diverse professional experience, Gatwiri has worked as a microbiologist, a writer and content creator on public issues, run a small-scale herbs farming venture, founded a community-based organisation on sexual and reproductive health, and served as an analyst at a global management consulting firm. This multidisciplinary background has given her a broad knowledge base across economic, social, health, agricultural, and social enterprise domains, along with strong expertise in research, data and information analysis, and science communication.
She is particularly skilled in knowledge communication - synthesizing complex information into accessible formats, interpreting and visualising data for diverse audiences, and translating research insights into actionable food and agricultural policy recommendations. She also works to strengthen knowledge management and foster connections among researchers, advocates, and stakeholders to drive collective action.
Gatwiri uses writing as a medium to inform, inspire, and educate. Her past work has explored the intersections of agricultural production, the challenges faced by smallholder farmers, and how policies, markets, colonial legacies, and cultural dynamics shape food systems, influencing what we eat, how we eat, and why. She has produced a wide range of articles, reports, and thought pieces, a selection of which is available on Muckrack.
Outside of work, Gatwiri enjoys cooking, baking, gardening, and cycling.
