Fredrick.Njau@ke.boell.orgFredrick Njau has been the Programme Coordinator for Sustainable Development at the Heinrich Böll Stiftung, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania Office, since October 2011. He has over 20 years’ experience in forestry, climate change, Sustainable Energy and sustainable development Programmes, working with international NGOs, Foundations, and civil society networks. His expertise lies in environmental governance, climate change adaptation and mitigation, participatory forest management, and community-driven Initiatives.
Prior to joining Heinrich Böll Stiftung, Fredrick served as Deputy Coordinator at the Kenya Forests Working Group at the East Africa Wildlife Society, leading advocacy and participatory forest management initiatives across Kenya. From 2003 to 2010, he worked with the Green Belt Movement, where he started and managed afforestation BioCarbon and climate change programmes, represented the organisation at multiple UN conferences, and collaborated with global partners on carbon finance and community forestry.
Fredrick began his career with the Green Belt Movement as an Assistant Project Officer and later Project Manager, overseeing tree-planting and afforestation projects with institutions and communities across Kenya.
He holds a B.Sc. in Forestry from Moi University, a Diploma in Project Management from the Kenya Institute of Management and several global professional certificates (notable ones at World Bank in Washington DC, AGORA in Germany). Fredrick is fluent in English, Kiswahili.
